The most common causes of tendonitis are a sudden injury or repetition of a movement over time. For this reason, it is especially common in people, whose hobbies or jobs include frequent repetitive movements that may aggravate the tendons.

There are also certain risk factors associated with tendonitis such as age (the older we get the more prone we are to it), health conditions such as diabetes or arthritis.

Common Symptoms of Tendonitis:

  • Redness, swelling, and heat

  • A feeling that the tendon is grating or crackling as it moves

  • Pain that becomes worse on movement

  • Difficulty moving the joint

Available Treatments of Tendonitis

The primary purpose of any treatment is to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. In most cases, it will be enough to try the following:

  • Resting the affected joint

  • Use of cold and hot treatment

  • Taking over-the-counter drugs, including ibuprofen

  • Splinting of the affected joint

Prevention is also a good strategy. According to the statistics, people are less likely to have tendonitis if they exercise regularly, warm-up and stretch before engaging in sports activities, avoid repetitive movements, and do not stay in one position for too long.
